The California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals has been awarded a competitive grant to provide recruitment and outreach, career counseling, training, placement, support, and evaluation for individuals who are currently or seeking to be employed and/or volunteer to facilitate the deployment of peer personnel as an effective and necessary service to clients and family members, and as triage and targeted case management personnel.

Training will include: crisis management, suicide prevention, recovery planning, targeted case management assistance and other related peer training and support functions to facilitate the deployment of peer personnel as an effective and necessary service to clients and family members, and as triage and targeted case management personnel.

“This is a terrific opportunity for CCAPP to use its strengths in training and professional development to assist the growing number of dedicated people in California who wish to formalize their role in supporting mental health and addiction treatment,” said CCAPP CEO Susan Blacksher.

“Research shows that peer support specialists improve treatment outcomes in a variety of ways which makes them an important component for the future of California’s mental health and alcohol/drug systems.”

CCAPP is now recruiting participants for seven regional peer support trainings. The trainings will be at no cost to participants. The training seeks to deliver basic information about peer support and placement for peer support specialists in California’s MH/AOD environment.

“We are excited to provide the conduit between national peer support advocates and researchers and California peer support specialists,” said CCAPP Education Manager, Kristina Padilla, who is managing the project.

“Our goal is to reach as many people as possible and stretch the funding made available through this grant as far as possible,” said CCAPP Deputy Director Pete Nielsen.
